No tax, legal or financial advice
The Freelance Rate Calculator is a tool for orientation when setting prices. The calculation is a simplified estimate and is not tax, legal or investment advice. It applies the federal rules for tax year 2026 for single filers and married couples filing jointly and uses an effective state rate that you provide. It does not model, among other things, tax credits, dependents, itemized deductions, the net investment income tax, the alternative minimum tax, state-specific rules, special rules for specified service businesses with employees, or the limits on retirement contributions. Other income you enter under “Other income” enters only as an amount in the federal tax calculation. Tax and contribution values change every year; the values used are stated with their year in the calculator. You are responsible for calculating your prices, for your tax arrangements and for complying with legal obligations. If in doubt, consult a certified public accountant (CPA), an enrolled agent or another qualified tax professional.
Loss of data
Your inputs are processed locally in your browser only and remembered only with your consent. They are lost when you close the window, clear your browser data, use a private window or switch to another device.
